COVID-19 UPDATE: Pharmacies to distribute vaccine when it is approved

According to CNN, the federal government has made a deal with retail pharmacies CVS and Walgreens to help distribute coronavirus vaccine – once one or more is authorized – to long-term care facilities like nursing homes. That and more in today’s Wayne County Report for October 19, 2020.

It will be up to the drugstore chains to figure out how to deliver the vaccines, including cold storage requirements and personal protective equipment. The retailers also will have to determine how to collect fees from Medicare, Medicaid or private insurers for administering the vaccines, which must be provided to people free of charge, officials said.

Staff and residents of long-term care facilities are expected to be among the first to get vaccinated.

According to the countywide health data distributed on October 18, 2020, Taylor registered one new COVID-19 case, upped its overall total to 1,128. There were no new deaths; that total remains at 81.

In addition, the Wayne County Health Department issued an updated order on October 16, 2020, to clarify mask requirements; social distancing; limitations on gatherings; and school reporting, among other topics.
