Spring time reminders as the weather gets warmer outside

RAT PREVENTION TAYLOR VERSION

Spring time reminders from the City of Taylor.

RAT PREVENTION TAYLOR VERSIONRATS: If you find yourself with a rat or rodent problem, it is usually because of two specific issues: A food source and available cover. Outdoor rodents seek those two things. Eliminate those factors, and you have usually eliminated them. The City of Taylor provides free rat poison at the Taylor Animal Shelter. If you discover rats, we recommend that you consider using it. But we also recommend re-examining not only your own property, but the properties surrounding you. If you discover rats, chances are that your neighbors are having the same difficulty. Sharing information and remedies among neighbors is highly recommended, because the problem that you are experiencing may not be coming from your property, but from elsewhere.

LAWN CARE: Given the wet weather, lawn maintenance has been difficult because the ground is so wet. The City of Taylor reminds residents that they should not blow grass clippings or other lawn-related debris into the streets. This type of debris ends up in the sewer system, and can cause problems. When mowing your lawn, use your blower or a broom to push debris or clippings from the street back onto your lawn. Remember that City Ordinances requires grass and weeds do not exceed 8 inches tall on any property, including grass and weeds along fences and walls. If a violation occurs a notice will be placed on the property structure along with a date for re-inspection (when grass or weeds must be cut).

COMPOST ONLY: When collecting compost, remember to never mix other debris, especially construction materials or rocks, with the regular compost. Those types of materials can cause damage to the machinery at the compost center, and can cause thousands of dollars in damages.
